Overview

During this program, you will partake in the day-to-day operations of a childcare facility. Not only will this give you an insight into authentic Filipino life, but you will also get engaged into the day-to-day operations of the kindergarten. The kindergarten is located in the Tigman area of Palawan and the children who attend are between the ages of 3 and 5.

Your primary task will be to communicate with the children using English and teaching them the language in a fun way.

Besides teaching, you will also support the local staff with the caretaking of the children. This task can range in activities, from organizing classes, playing games and guiding activities to feeding, cutting nails, combing hair and so on.

The children are always interested in learning more about foreign lands and you are encouraged to bring pictures from your country, friends, family, etc or objects that highlight your culture in order to promote intercultural exchange.

The children will learn from you, but you will also leave the project having learned from them!

Objectives

  • Widen the Island children’s cultural interactions
  • Give you invaluable, practical experience in teaching
  • Assist the local staff by providing an extra hand

Impact

Volunteer experiences have a direct and positive impact on local communities by injecting money into the local economy through the purchase of food, transportation, and tourism activities. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the comunity and make a difference in the world. Depending on the type of volunteer experience you are interested in, your time can be spent improving educational resources and opportunities, providing medical services to underserved communities, or promoting environmental conservation and sustainable farming techniques.

Accommodation

This center houses all participants in their programs around Palawan. It is built with many natural elements and have a tropical beach look to them! You’ll be sleeping on bunk beds and we have limited laundry facilities, so expect to wash your clothes by hand, unless you’d like to use the laundry service here for a small fee. Due to our tropical setting, WiFi service may not be what you are used to at home. It is limited and sometimes inaccessible due to weather, so having your own local SIM card and purchasing data through the GLOBE network may be your best option for staying connected consistently while you are in our local village. Please be advised that due to jellyfish in the water, it is unlikely that you will be able to swim at the beach close by the accommodation. There is an area near the river or on the other side of the village, which is about a 15 minute walk away, where you will be able to enjoy some time in the water.

Cancellation Policy

Bookings can be amended and cancelled 30 days before the program start date without any costs. Bookings that are cancelled less than 30 days before the program start date will be charged the first week of the booking.
